Current Current (2024)

Current Current is a collaborative performance/community reading that conceptualizes human jaws as riverbanks; as the bony boundaries of linguistic currents and curren(t)cies. The work investigates a metaphorical, yet somatic and contemp(t)orary, relationship between spoken words and streaming waters. By conversing with both the main-stream and its affective undercurrent, the performance reflects on the experiences our words are curated to water, and water down.

Through collective attention and action, Current Current chews on institutionalised language and attempts to define a social environment worth salivating over. An environment where words swell to hold the shape of their mouth. Where conversations travel on their taste. Where the tongue-wave of an utterance matters, for language here does not deny its body.

Here, a confluence of jaw-lines is also a community; the doing of something together.

Here, words float in the muscularity of meaning; in water’s moving, in water’s planning, in water’s organizing.
